News reports were coming in late Monday evening that Mika Yamamoto a reporter for Japan Press was killed while covering the war in Syria.
It wasn’t clear at the time of first reports exactly when or where she had been killed but a video posted on YouTube by a Syrian activist was viewed by a colleague of Yamamoto, an Associated Press reporter, who identified her body in the video.
Her body has been taken to Turkey.
While writing this posting ABC News reported she had been wounded in the Suleiman al-Halabi neighborhood of Aleppo and died of her injuries Tuesday (August 21 – The Syrian time zone is several hours ahead from where this writer is (ET) and where early news accounts are being issued where it is still Monday).
Although this writer was able to find the video mentioned above I will not put it into this post nor link to it because of the graphic nature and out of respect for Mika Yamamoto’s family, friends and colleagues.
